Impossible is nothing

Sweden Rocks! :)

Finally I went to Sweden again! It was so nice! On the last four days I had the chance to meet some friends that I didn't see for a long time, to do very nice trainnings on challenging terrain and also to run my first trainning of night-orienteering in Sweden.
Trainnigs went very well and I felt much confident on this kind of terrain than before.I run a nigh-o trainning close to the club's house, long distance together with Julia, Linda,Ellen and Annika on the swedish long national championship map, middle distance on the Gnesta city map and also night orienteering on the swedish middle national championship map. This last trainning was terrific! I run together with Julia through the dark swedish forest on such a tough and technical terrain...but, the problem was more about lamp batteries :eyes: unfortunately the lamp batterie was over and we had to come back to the car trough the darkness. It was crazy

It was great going to Sweden during winter time.It so cold...but drinking a hot coffee in a warm and confortable swedish house made me forget it.
Now I'm looking forward to the spring to go there again and try to run some relays with the girls:cool:

wroclaw»»vienna»»olomouc»»wroclaw ;)

This trip was absolutely terrific! Last friday (7th november) we just packed our bags and took a train to Vienna. After a few hours during the night, crossing the borders of Poland, Czech Republic and Austria the «crazy portuguese» finally reached Vienna! What a awesome city! I just loved it! Stephan's cathedral, St.Peters curch, Votive church, Burg theathre, Schonbrunn Palace, Albertina were just some of the places that we visited. We also went to the Opera on Sunday evening
Of course that between so many nice places that we visited I also found very beautiful parks to run in the morning;)

Schonbrunn Palace in the morning. Just perfect;)

On monday morning it was time to go back home but..going to Olomouc and visit some portuguese friends sounded very nice. So instead of buying tickets to Wroclaw we decided to buy to Olomouc;) This part of the trip had a special meaning for me. I was not really expecting to go to Olomouc again after woc. So I remembered all the ambience, races and so on! Besides that, I had the chance to run the sprint final race and also to run on the sprint model event map.

Well, after travelling for four days we came back to wroclaw. Interestingly I had the feeling of finally «coming back home»

O- Pierogi

Pierogi is a very traditional Polish dish eaten by everyone. Although often described as a stuffed dumpling, this speciality is more akin to Italian Ravioli. Indeed, it is thought that they were introduced to Polish cuisine about 500 years ago by Queen Bonna who was Italian
These little treasures are truly versatile. They can be served with soup, as a starter sprinkled with fried onion and bacon, as a main course either with a sauce or plain with sour cream although more often as an accompaniment to a main course and even as a dessert. Once boiled they can be served as they are, sautéed in butter or even deep fried and can be filled with practically anything you have to hand. The favourite fillings include seasoned pork or beef with onions, cottage cheese, sauerkraut, potatoes, cabbage and mushrooms.
My stay in Poland has been like pierogi filled by very good things! Wroclaw is a great city, full of parks, banks along the river, beautifull libraries, wonderfull churches and many others things, that make it much better then Porto for living and trainning. Being here has been like a break in my life and a gift full of very good things. Here I have time to take a deep breath, go out for trainning in the middle of the afternoon, go to the library, go out with friends at evening...I mean, here I don't feel the stressfull kind of life that I have in Porto. So nice!

SZCZYTNICKI PARK

ODRA - saturday trainning

Trainning here has been also very good. Poland is not the best place for orienteering, but definitely much better than in Portugal. It's great to take part in some competitions and trainnings with Slask Wroclaw. So nice and kind people that I really have to say DZIEKUJE BARDZO!!

Running between czech holes and mountains

Last saturday it was time to go a little to the south and visit czech republic for a small competition. I've never runned on such a map before. So many holes at the beggining and at the end, between climbing up and down a tipical czech moutain.
I did some small mistakes and one bad route choise as I lost some minutes running straight instead of running on track around (11-12).Althought I felt good as I was very focused and my brain didn't stop for a minute. About running speed was quite ok but it wasn't exactly the goal for this trainning. By the way I was 6tg between 25 runners.
My route choices:

Now is time to train in Wroclaw to improve my strenght and next weekend I'll run some small cometitions here in Poland.Do widzenia! =)

Czesc Wroclaw! =)

Last 25th september I arrived to Wroclaw, Venice of east europe and one of the most beautiful citys in Poland. That’s here where I’ll live the next six months of my life! I’m taking part of erasmus programme and I’ll do part of the fifth year of medicine here at Wroclaw.
First days at wroclaw were so Great! This a beautiful city: a lot of bridges, magnific cathedral, central square (Rinek, one of the biggest of Europe), enormous green áreas and many others things that make this city one of the best in Europe for those that want to take part on erasmus programm. Wroclaw university has seven Nobel prices (some of them from students others from teachers) and has a new and excelent hospital to learn and practice medicine.

The only thing that I don’t appreciate so much is the cold at winter, as I’m used to the warm weather in Portugal. But th experience of living on a cold country and trainning with cold could be nice
Today I joined Slask Wroclaw (orienteering club) for trainning and I enjoyed a lot! They are very nice and kind people  I hope I can improve my running and orienteering skills with them. Next Saturday we’ll run a small competition in czech republic…and I’m looking forward to this!
See you soon!

WUOC- EYEstonia

Yes..it’s a while since wuoc and I’m sorry for didn’t writte sooner.
The experience of running at universitary championship was great! It’s very different from woc: people (most of them) are more relaxed concerning to the competition, people live at friendly ambience and, maybe, becuase of that, I didn’t feel anymore so stressed as at woc races. For be true, I was expecting better results from myself, specially at sprint distance…but unfortunatly it was not my day. Absolutly! I felt so tired and demotivated..I can’t explain and I have no excuse for such a bad race. Long distance was one of the thoughest races and terrain that I ever saw. Everybody arrived to the finish área so tired and some of them, almost walking! Besides of that many didn’t finished, others did more time than was allowed by the organizeres and others got injured. I belonged to those that was disqualified. Unfortunatly I missed one control!
Well, and middle distance was my last chance to do a nice race. I was very focused at the start line and started very confident and focused. I caught two runners that started before me and that gave me even more confidence! I was so focused, that somewhere at that forest, there was a branch that pinched my eye while I was reading the map! Oh my God! I though that I was blind as I couldnt see anything. It was terrible experience (as you can imagine). After a few minutes break, my eye start working again (not 100%) and I continued my race trough that though and so green forest. Not big mistakes and classified between the 50 first of the race were some reasons to be happy at the end of the race. But the scratch on my eye worried me so much that I couldnt enjoy that. I went to the hospital to check it and then to the pharmacy (apteka;) to by antibiotics. Fortunatly it wasn’t so serious as I was afraid it could be. But all preventive mesures are important so, the opportunity to run the relay with the austrian girls was gone :frown:
By the way, my eye is ok now and I promisse that in the future I’ll use glasses during all next races

Deep breath and...WUOC!!

After czech republic it's time to rest and take energy for the next goal this season : WUOC. This time I came to Algarve (south of portugal) to have some days of rest, portuguese food and sun;) I've been doing some jogging with my dad and also walking in the beach with my mum. It's been great time! Now I'm packing my bags to Estonia, to the world university orienteering championship.I'll run the sprint, middle and long, but unfortunatly I'll be the only portuguese girl in estonia so...no portuguese relay team for me. Maybe I can run with the spanish girls:p The sprint distance will be the distance that I will focus more. Middle and long will be nice (I hope!) but no expectations for these races, as it will be the first time running on though estonian terrain.
You can follow the wuoc portuguese team on http://tugas-no-wuoc.blogspot.com/ - the oficial portuguese team wuoc blog.

WOC -middle Q and Relay

After bad sprint and long Q races, I was focused on doing a good middle race even knowing that reach a final on that discipline would be almost impossible for me.
I started quite ok and confident but after two controls I lost so much time at control number 3 as I was running on a different open area that i didn't wanted to. Control number 4 was ok but then number 5 was disaster again. The rest of the race was technically ok but i was not fighting anymore.(map here)
The good news were that finally I was going to run the relay at the world champs!Beside just me and Raquel had run the rest of the races, Susana joined the team to run the relay. Susuna Pontes is the best MTBO athlete in Portugal and very good runner on foot orienteering! It was absolutly fantastic to have the chance to run with Raquel and with Susana the relay race. I ran the second leg and it was great experience! (map here)
After relay I was very tired...but still some extra energy to left o the dance floor :hat:

WOC - sprint Q, sprint F and long Q

This was my overview while preparing to the sprint Q.That was the discipline which I felt best prepared and capable to reach the final. Althought things went bad...I was extremely nervous and my body was so tense that I couldn't run relaxed and just focused on my orienteering. I did two bigmistakes, one at the long leg and the other at the final park. It was too much time lost and the final become unreachable. After one season focused on trainning for sprint races it was very disapoiting race :frown:

Raquel Costa, my team mate did really good sprint race! Unfortunatly she missed the final only for two seconds :frown: It was the best result ever for a portuguese women and it was very important for our country. Now people knows that we are very close to reach the final and that it is not impossible for us, beside dont having the same trainning opportunities, technical maps, federation support, sponsers and so on! Beside so close to the final, we were happy for her and what does it means!

After sprint qualification, the final was held at Olomouc center on a great arena! It was perfect place for a woc sprint final.

The gold medals went to Russia (Andrey Kramov) and to Norway (Anne Margrethe Hausken). My team mate and friend, Ionut Zinca did very good race, reaching the 21st place on his first woc sprint final ever. Congratulations!

And after sprint distance we ran the long qualiication.Portuguese team was fighting for a place in the final, as on the sprint qualification. Unfortunatly things went pretty bad... all of us did many mistakes and lost so many minutes...:left: :right: We are not used to run on so hilly terrain with so many branches on the ground. Beside the map looks easy it's not that easy... even run on some white parts is hard.

Today we went for middle distance model. It was very green area, bit hilly and same contour difficult running is required. We hope to do better races and we'll fight until the end!

WOC - day 2

Second day at Olomouc and the weather is warmer and warmer. Today portuguese team went trainning to Prostejov velodrom. Unfortunatly we just had one map so, we had to go on trainning all together. It was nice terrain, very flat and fast running orienteering map. I didn't feel particulary well, but I think it was because of the hot weather and because we were running at 12 o'clok!

After lunch, I splept «la siesta» and at 14h30 went trainning to the center of Olomouc for the sprint model event.Me and Raquel went walking together watching all the details and the special way that the cartographers represent the vegetation. A bit different than what we are used to...so it was important trainning for tomorrow!

In a few hours we'll know our start times and some more informations for tomorrow sprint race. Portuguese team is ready. Let's get it started!
