| The new hotel unit in alentejo Congress Hotel and SPA Turismo São
Mamede, in Portalegre, was recently launched by the Secretary of
State for Tourism, Bernardo Trindade, replacing the former hotel
D.João III. |
This 8 million euro investment came to help
solve the lack of tourist accommodation in this city in Alentejo.
The Congress Hotel and SPA Turismo São Mamede is inserted in a set
of 15 regional tourism projects.
With three stars, the new unit has an area exceeding 3,000 m2, 84
rooms, two suites, spa, restaurant, three conference rooms and a
pool. "The equipment will replace the old Hotel D. João III,
located in the city center that should be demolished by the end of this
year", said the director of the unit, António Sanches Jorge. The
hotel responsible stressed that, before moving to this investment,
the company tried to recover the Hotel D. João III, but concluded
that the project "was not viable". In the space left by D. João III,
ten thousand square meters, is planned the construction of offices,
shops and homes, a project "developed by the architect Eduardo
Souto Moura" he revealed. So "the company moved into building
this new hotel", located near the Business Center of the Portalegre Region
(NERPOR), on the outskirts of the city.
